Easy Guide to Casual Conversion

On 26 August 2024, elements of the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No. 2) Act 2024 took effect, resulting in minor changes to the definition of “casual employee”, and the enhancement of the “employee choice pathway”, which refers to a casual employee’s ability to pursue conversion to permanent employment.

The legislation will also phase-out the casual conversion process (which was introduced in 2021) by 26 February 2025, or 26 August 2025 in the case of small business employers.
