2026 Ekka (Show) Holidays for South-East Queensland

Statutory public holidays for the 2026 Royal Queensland Show – aka ‘Ekka’ – are scheduled to apply across large parts of the South-East Queensland region in the week beginning 10 August 2026.

These dates arise as ‘show holidays’ which are public holidays appointed in districts/shires throughout Queensland in relation to annual agricultural, horticultural or industrial shows.

2026 show holidays are scheduled for parts of South-East Queensland as follows:

DateDayLGA
10 August 2026MondayMoreton Bay, Logan City, Redlands, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim, South Burnett, Gladstone & others*
12 August 2026WednesdayBrisbane City
28 August 2026FridayGold Coast (for Gold Coast Show)

*Various other LGA’s will also observe a show holiday for ‘Ekka’ on 10 August 2026 – search the full list here. The designated 2026 show holiday for the City of Ipswich occurred on 15 May 2026.

Importantly, show holidays are treated like any other public holiday on the calendar. As different districts can observe different dates with respect to their designated show holiday, it can become confusing when employees work across multiple districts or live in one district and work in another. ES Clients who are confused as to which public holiday prevails for their staff should contact us on (07) 3220 3500 for assistance. The Employer Services office and advice line will be CLOSED on 12 August 2026.
